Green smoothies have become popular around the globe because they are easy to prepare, have great nutritional value and antioxidant benefits. After all, they are used in many diets, whether to lose weight or gain muscle. And although it may sound strange, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) can be one of the best additions to your green detox smoothies.
In fact, this Mediterranean ingredient is full of antioxidants and vitamins, so it’s a great option as a healthy fat source that you need to add to your smoothie for an optimum result. That’s why here, we are going to show you how to prepare two green and Mediterranean-style smoothies:
Ingredients for the preparation of green smoothies
Option 1:
2 cups of spinach
1 ripe banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 pitted dates
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
½ cup of water
1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (preferably the Arbequina variety)
½ teaspoon powdered spirulina
Option 2:
2 cups of spinach
1 pear, chopped
1 ripe banana
1-inch ginger root
3 fresh mint leaves
¼ cup of hemp seeds
Juice of ½ lime
1 ½ cup of coconut water
1 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil (Arbequina variety preferred)
Elaboration process of both green smoothies:
First, add your liquids to the blender (the milk and the extra virgin olive oil).
Follow up with the thickener (like banana) and the protein source.
Add the most fragile solids (spinach) and, finally, the rest of the solids (like frozen fruits).
Mix everything with the blender until you get a homogeneous and consistent liquid.
PRO TIP: If you are craving for a sweeter smoothie, try adding a date or two instead of other refined sugars to keep it healthy.
