Brown bread, or Majorcan peasant bread, is one of the key products in the island, a great side-food to many courses, and the main protagonist of <strong><em>pa amb oli<\/em><\/strong>, which is no more no less than bread with olive oil, a well-loved \u2013 and quite old \u2013 preparation in the Mediterranean.<\/p><p><em>Pa amb oli<\/em> is absolutely exceptional along with cheeses and cold meats, but it\u2019s also excellent to pair it <em>sobrasada<\/em> or, simply, with <strong><em>ramallet\u2019s<\/em> tomato<\/strong> \u2013 an island tomato variety that it\u2019s typically hang \u2013, which is another gourmet product perfect to rub on top of a slide of brown bread. In fact, this island has years of tradition in the elaboration of this frozen dessert, which is why it\u2019s a must try for any visitor, especially during summer, when cold bites are much needed to stay fresh.<\/p><p>On the other hand, during Christmas time, we also find the <strong>almond nougat bathed in honey<\/strong>, whose artisanal elaboration dates back hundreds of years. Because although its consumption is not recommended for day to day, it is an indisputably delicious product that deserves all the guarantees of quality.<\/p><p><em>Ensaimada<\/em>, whose name comes from the Arabic word for lard \u2013 <em>saim<\/em> \u2013 which is part of its elaboration, is by definition a spiral-shaped sweet made of flour, water, sugar and eggs, which <strong>can be prepared without any filling, or else, filled with <\/strong><strong>pumpkin strands in\u00a0syrup<\/strong><strong>, cream, apricot, chocolate, or even <em>sobrasada<\/em><\/strong>, for greater \u2013 yet occasional \u2013decadent treat.<\/p><h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Coca_de_patata\"><\/span>9. <em>Coca de patata<\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3><p>Another traditional sweet of the island, <em>coca de patata<\/em>, has its origin in Valldemossa, one of the must-visit villages in Mallorca.
